Air Management
February 2018:
I decided to go with the Air Lift 3H Management paired with a Air Zenith OB2 Compressor and 2.5 Gallon 5" Seamless Tank. I really wanted to install all parts in the least intrusive way so it it looked OEM. I was able to fit the compressor and manifold in the lower storage compartment and the tank behind the rear bumper. This way I still have complete use of my trunk.
Here is the compressor and manifold mocked up in the storage compartment. I removed the carpeting to run the air lines and wiring so they will be hidden.
This is both sides of the storage compartment where I ran all the air lines outside the car using SMC Bulkheads and SMC Plug-In Elbows. Labeled everything for easy maintenance.
I was able to fit the air tank behind the bumper and secure it with three huge zip ties to the bumper beam. Each end of the tank got SMC Swivel Elbows attached to them that run to the SMC Bulkheads.
Here is the completed truck layout with all air lines and wires connected! Once closed, it looks like nothing was ever there.
On the left side I installed an Air Tool Coupler into a SMC Bulkhead Female Straight and mounted it to the plastic tray. The air line tees into the tank below. Now I can easily use the tire inflater and blow gun from the Bag Riders Air Tool Kit, and the Viair cases fit perfect in the side compartment.
I attached the 3H and OB2 power harnesses to the battery using the upper junction box. Ground wires are attached to the chassis ground terminal. The 3H ignition wire is attached to fuse #146 in the main fuse box using an Add-A-Circuit connection. I ran the 3H sensor wires out of the vent hole behind the battery.
I cover the installation of the 3H height sensors on my air suspension install page.
Refer to the Air Lift 3P/3H Install Manual for more details on components and wiring diagrams.
I mounted the 3H controller to the right of the radio. It is 3M taped to a small piece of metal that is wedged in between the radio trim and surprisingly sturdy. I ran the wire inside up the left side, just wedging it behind the trim with a trim tool. Below the controller is my iPhone mount.
October 2018:
As much as I love my current setup, I just wasn't happy with the compressor noise. Since AccuAir just recently released their ENDO compressor tanks that are virtually silent, I decided to get one in my car!
I removed the Air Zenith OB2 Compressor and put a 3 Gallon AccuAir ENDO-CT in it's place. It just barely fit with moving the 3H manifold to the very end. I left my Seamless tank under the car in case I need to attach it to the ENDO tank for more air volume.
The wiring was super easy. I attached the ENDO power wire right next to the 3H power wire. Attached into that red OEM junction box. The ENDO adapter harness fit perfectly next to the 3H relay. I paored the ENDO ignition wire with the 3H ignition wire.
Bag Riders did a great blog article on my AccuAir ENDO to Air Lift 3P/H Install. It includes a wiring diagram and details on the install process.
Here is the noise comparison test versus the Air Zenith OB2 Compressor.
February 2019:
I had to warranty my ENDO tank so I decided to switch to the black cerakote finish. I think the black finish blends in better against the black 3H manifold and carpet.
I ran the newly included ENDO drain valve to an SMC bulkhead female straight outside the car for easy drain of the water in the tank. I also connected my Seamless tank under the car to the ENDO tank to increase the volume to about 6 gallons.
June 2019:
I decided to make my controller mount more official instead of just having a piece of metal wedged in between the radio trim.
I made my own 3P/H controller mounting plate out of black acrylic and attached it to the Rennline ExactFit mount.
Once installed it looks great from the front and is very sturdy!
October 2019:
I added a AVS water trap in between the tank and manifold to prevent any debris or moisture from harming the valves. I removed the drain cock and replaced it with a SMC swivel elbow so I can tee the drain line into my tank drain. Now the tank and water trap drain moisture outside of the cabin together.
April 2020:
I added a SMC PTC Flow Control Valve to the manifold supply line and a SMC Dump Muffler to the exhaust port. This will help the car air up and down a lot slower, giving more time for the Air Lift 3H system to hit presets more accurately.
I also added SMC PTC Flow Control Valves to the rear bag lines to slow down the fill and dump speed. This will allow the car to air up and down evenly since the rear was faster than the front.
